Train to be a Primary Teacher
Primary routes focus on the study of teaching in all Primary National Curriculum subjects, with emphasis on the core subjects: English, Mathematics and Science.
Primary courses allow applicants the opportunity to study a range of ages - from 3-11 or 5-11 - and the distinctive pedagogies encountered in reception, nursery, KS1 and KS2 classrooms as well as a KS3 experience. Trainees will learn the principles of curriculum design and delivery and the theories of learning and teaching, alongside developing practical insights and skills in the effective teaching and assessment of young children through practical school-based experience.
Core Content Framework (CCF):
The Initial Teacher Training (ITT) programmes follow the Core Content Framework (CCF) - a framework to support trainee teacher development. The ITT Core Content Framework aligns with the Early Career Framework (ECF) to establish an entitlement to a 3-or-more year structured package of support for all new teachers at the start of their careers. Drawing on evidence-based research, the CCF sets out the content that Initial Teacher Training providers and their partnerships must use when designing and delivering their Initial Teacher Training curriculum.
Trainees will be offered a series of learning experiences linking different perspectives of Primary teaching to aid the development of their professional skills in the classroom and lead them towards successfully achieving Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) by meeting the required National Teacher Standards.
