Postgraduate Initial Teacher Training

Postgraduate Initial Teacher Training is a route favoured by career changers, university graduates and career finders who possess a BA Hons degree in 2:2 or above.

This is a bespoke and flexible option for those looking to become a teacher; it caters to individuals and their specific requirements, along with the opportunity to be in school for the entirety of their training.

There are full-time programmes - taking one year to complete - or part-time courses available, which will require longer to complete. This route into Primary school teaching can include the option of subject specialism.

Degrees with opt-in QTS are available in certain subjects such as Modern Foreign Languages, Computing and Physics. Applications are generally made through Department for Education “Apply for Teacher Training” portal for this route.

Entry Requirements for Primary Postgraduate:

For most postgraduate primary teacher training courses, prospective trainees will need a minimum of a 2:2 degree, normally GCSE English, Mathematics and Science (Grades 9 - 4 or A* - C), or recognised equivalents plus other requirements such as a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

Core Content Framework (CCF):

The Initial Teacher Training (ITT) programmes follow the Core Content Framework (CCF) - a framework to support trainee teacher development. The ITT Core Content Framework aligns with the Early Career Framework (ECF) to establish an entitlement to a 3-or-more year structured package of support for all new teachers at the start of their careers.

Drawing on evidence-based research, the CCF sets out the content that Initial Teacher Training providers and their partnerships must use when designing and delivering their Initial Teacher Training curriculum.

Trainees will be offered a series of learning experiences linking different perspectives of Primary teaching to aid the development of their professional skills in the classroom and lead them towards successfully achieving Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) by meeting the required National Teacher Standards.

Haybridge Alliance SCITT:

All trainees are required to spend one day a week studying the theory of teaching. Full time trainees will then spend four days in their placement schools, observing experts in their fields before slowly taking on classroom responsibilities and putting their theoretical knowledge into practice. Part time trainees will spend two days a week in their placement school.

Train to teach primary students in a rewarding career choice

Our Primary courses allow applicants the opportunity to study a range of ages, ranging from 3-11 (Undergraduate) or 5-11 (Postgraduate) and the distinctive pedagogies encountered in reception, nursery, KS1 and KS2 classrooms, as well as a KS3 experience.
